In the handbook, the SEC notes the following:
Examinations are risk-based, with factors including prior examination history, the time elapsed since the last examination, conflicts presented by business activities, changes in key personnel, media reporting, and access to client assets.
Records are expected to be made available within 24 hours, although the SEC generally allows approximately two weeks for the initial request list.
A disposition letter is generally issued within 180 days following the exit meeting.
